Lighting

If you thought I was good at decorative plumbing, you should see me sell lighting

lighting.jpg

People dont know that I came from the electrical and lighting background.  They used to call me #Sparky.  Even though I sell decorative plumbing, my background in lighting helped us obtain and represent this new line:  Ayre.  This company fits what we are doing because they sell to only kitchen and bath/hardware dealers.  Very nice complement to our current customers to capture the entire bathroom.  One set of sconces at a time.  Great sales people can sell anything.

I See Circles

Audi 4 Rings.  Round Air Vents.  Round Architecture.  Juxtapositioning

Not sure if its a benefit of what I do, or a curse...I drive alot.  Thus far 7 month old car and I already have 20,000 miles on it.  Work hard, work the territory.  Which brought me to service at University VW / Audi.

It allowed me to check out the new beautiful A3.  Designwise, the car is so elegant and simple (which is hard to pull off)  Audi is also building their new building with this round ramp.  I love how it juxtapose wood (tradiition) with concrete (modern).  It just works.  Perhaps the circles I see are whats in my future.

Shop n Shop

Brand Brand Brand!

A funny thing happened last week.  One of our dealers said:  "We actually sell more product with branded areas.  Sort of like a shop in shop..than they do with suites or categories of product."  I believe a mix of suites, branded areas and product walls is probably the best way to merchandise and drive sales.  I found it funny that in our industry most "showrooms" do not get this yet.  Just like at all the high end department stores or boutiques.  Brand drive sales.

School's In

Always teaching

Whether I was coaching high school tennis or teaching members of the NKBA Vancouver Chapter.  Always teaching.  Always presenting.  Always Training.  Always competing to be better than the next / brand(s).  This amazing presentation room is part of Cantu Bath and Hardware.  #fishbowl

Affiliated Marketing

Old School Affiliated Marketing.

You've probably heard about Affiliated Marketing and "clicks" etc when you are using a website and you click an ad or banner...the other company will be paid for that click or traffic or if there was a purchase made on the visiting website.

This image is from one of our dealers in the bay area.  It's old school Affiliated Marketing.  No, they dont get paid for the referrals, but these are the companies this dealership is comfortable with recommending for work.  In turn, as these companies promote and sell, they will probably eventually refer business back to this dealer.

This type of partnership and relationships are key to business.  Old School Marketing!  This was the best example I've seen on giving these businesses the proper space and due.

Juxtaposition Part1 - Nature

jux·ta·po·si·tion

noun

the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.

Often we forget you can mix traditional with modern.   Opposites highlight each others strengths.  Design wise, it works.

Nature with architecture.  Soothes the soul.

The new finish is out...Cyprum

The secret is out.  Dornbracht releases its new Cyprum finish.  Made of real gold and copper.

Rose gold is all the rage in fashion and jewelry.  What Cyprum does is bring alittle traditional to a modern design.  As you can see in my second picture, this was a sample I was carrying around. It matches this new sink finish well also.  Made of real gold (like all dornbracht finishes) combined with copper.  This purely galvanic finish is just gorgeous.  Cyprum is a term of art derived from the Latin "Cuprum" and means "Copper".  Available mid year.  Any bets whose going to get the most displays out in this traditional market?   :)

Technolgy

Technology or lack there of

In an information world, it still amazes me how many of our dealers and showrooms are realistically barely better than a mom and pop store using pencil and paper to process and move information about sales, inventory, and what products are trending.

This showroom uses QR Codes to direct the consumer to the website and suited information.

Very similar to having a little plaque explaining what you are seeing and loving.  Which by the way, people should still do.  The silent salesperson.

Brand vs Private Label vs Generic

What does brand mean?

Coach.jpg

For those who know me, know I have bag fetish, so you can see my excitement when I came home to my new Coach duffle!

This leads to bigger question in my industry as corporations, buying groups are doing what grocery stores and department stores are doing.  They are using private labels or generics to supplement their sales.  They do this to make higher profit margins because private label protects the sale (cant get it anywhere else) and since their is no marketing, packaging or structurual costs....generally with lower pricing.

So this is exactly what I don't do, what I dont sell, and what I don't support.   Stores forget sometimes that brands' marketing and quality is what drives people to stores.  Yes, customers may buy a knockoff or lower priced alternative.

I buy brands.  Why?  What is the definition of brand?  To me very simple:  Consistency.  Its everything you do around the brand that makes it special.  How it makes you feel to own it or use it.

People have to understand, in sales. its not about price.  True salesmanship, you sell value.  Not in price, but the value of brand and what the brand offers.

Consistency:  Quality, Image, Status, Packaging, Design, Art, Innovation, Function, Technology and so on.

I choose brand because I can and I deserve it.

Was the first in nation to get new board on order.  The picture doesnt show you everything, but the board has the new Marc Newsom and all the drains / finishes on a beautiful board

Competition

Competition is like Cod Oil.  It first makes you sick.  Then it makes you better.

Display.JPG

What i believe makes our team outstanding is that we compete not only with ourselves but with everyone.  We strive to service better, train better, sale more, be more efficient...be the best.  That is one reason i believe we represent only the best.   My counterpart in the bay area almost finished this new custom display by Dornbracht.  He just threw down the gauntlet.   Now its my turn.

All of the sudden on this Valentines day, i feel like i need a cold shower.

KBIS - NKBA

KBIS (Kitchen Bath Industry Show) -by NKBA (National Kitchen Bath Association)

Kartell-SK-Laufen.JPG

This year, the KBIS show combined with the IBS, International Builders Show.  Being in February, was the perfect time for LAUFEN to launch their new technology in ceramics Saphir Keramic.  This new material allows for thin edges like steal with stronger ceramics to be able to do amazing modern edges and forms.  Part of this launch included the new KARTELL by Laufen Partnership.  The picture you see are some pieces from that collection.
